What is GoKart?
GoKart is a ride service to get kids ages 6-17 to where they need to go when their parents can’t. GoKart was created by a mom who understands the stress of driving kids to all of their activities as well as the safety concerns parents have when putting their children in someone else’s car. It is a simple, convenient and reliable solution borne out of necessity and fueled by care for the kids we carry.
How do I use GoKart?
GoKart requires a 24-hour booking notice. If you require a booking within 24 hours, or after regular business hours, we will do our best to match you with a driver for an additional $10 fee, paid at the time of booking through PayPal.
You’ll need to visit our website and create an account (top right side of the page). Tell us a little about yourself, verify your e-mail when you get an e-mail from us and you are all set to book a ride.
When you click on the book a ride button, you will choose your date, time, to and from addresses, input your child’s information it requests, choose an available driver and then pay for the ride via PayPal. While booking a ride, we will ask for a secret word. This is a word or phrase that only you, you child and your driver know.
Once the ride is scheduled, you will receive an e-mail that the ride is “waiting”. Once the ride is accepted, you will receive an e-mail regarding acceptance. Your driver will text you and your child (if a cell phone number given) a phone of them and a photo of their car. You and your child will now have also captured their cell phone number if you need to contact. If your child down not have a cell phone, please show them the driver’s information so that pick up goes smoothly. How does GoKart Charge for the Drive?
GoKart’s pricing is based on mileage. It is $15 for first 5 miles and $1.25 per mile after. There is no charge for the first sibling. Other charges include: $5 for any kids over 2. If you have three kids going to school, an additional $5 above fare price. Also, there is a
$5 over 10 minutes waiting time. This does not include the carpool line, but if you scheduled a pick up at 3:30, and your child comes out at 3:45, there is an additional $5 charge. This is less about charging you more, but about keeping the drivers on schedule to not be late for their next scheduled pickup.
What if My School Requires a Carpool Tag?
No problem! We follow all school carpool procedures. The best solution is to scan and e-mail the carpool tag to Stacy Shannon (firstname.lastname@example.org) and she will then forward the tag to your driver so that they can print out. If the school just needs the carpool number, your driver can print or write that out. If your school requires an original carpool tag, please contact your school to see if the driver can go in and obtain on their first visit.
Can I have the Same Driver Drive my Child?
We would love for your child to have the same driver each time, however, we cannot guarantee it. As Independent Contractors, the drivers input their schedule when they would like to work, by Sunday every week and there may be days that they are not available.
Can I Meet my Driver?
Yes, you can meet your driver booked, but again, we cannot guarantee the same driver. We require that you pay a suggested $15-$20 to the driver for their time meeting you.
Can Adults use GoKart?
At this time, GoKart transports children between the ages of 6-17. We have driven children with their parent or grandparent to their destination and that is OK.
What Happens the Day of the Ride?
On the day of your scheduled pick up, the driver will arrive at the specified time and place. They will follow any instructions that you give in the message box at the time of booking. The driver will state what the secret word is and then they are on their way! We expect children under 13 years of age to sit in the backseat, as is required by the law. Once your child has been delivered to specified drop off address, your driver will text you that your child has arrived safe and sound. When you are scheduling your GoKart drive, please leave any detailed notes about your pick up in the message box. This is your chance to tell your driver anything specific. Your driver receives that information and will reach out if they have any questions.
Where Can I Use GoKart?
You can book with GoKart to take your kids anywhere they need to go! School, camp, the dentist, the mall, to a sleepover, another parent’s house, practice, pick up at the airport (cannot drop off), etc.
Where does GoKart Operate?
Currently, GoKart operates in Wake Forest, Rolesville, North Raleigh, Brier Creek, Knightdale, Johnston County (limited, please inquire), Garner, Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Holly Springs, New Hill, Durham (limited, please inquire), Chapel Hill and Hillsborough.
GoKart also operates in limited areas of Charlotte: Huntersville, Moorseville, Davidson and Matthews area.
How Can I Cancel a Ride I have Booked?
Any time that your child will not require transportation as scheduled, notification must be made to GoKart no less than four (24) hours prior to the scheduled pick-up time. Rides canceled within 24 hours will receive a refund minus a $15 fee. No refund is given if the ride is canceled within 4 hours of the pick-up time. You can text your change to Stacy Shannon at (919) 428-7784 or e-mail email@example.com for any changes to your ride.
How Many Riders can be Scheduled for a Drive?
We can drive as many kids as will fit safely into the driver’s car. We do have drivers with minivans and SUV’s. However, we charge $5 for every child over 2. So, if there are 4 kids being driven, an additional $10 is charged on top of the fare.
Can I Carpool?
Absolutely! You will need to gain pricing by contacting Stacy Shannon, as we do not have that built into the system yet. She will discuss how all the mileage is calculated and split between the parents.
How is GoKart different than other Rideshare companies like Uber and Lyft?
GoKart is a ride service specifically for children ages 6 to 17. Other rideshare companies like Uber and Lyft are not insured to carry passengers under 18 years of age. By contrast, every GoKart driver undergoes a rigorous interviewing process before they can drive your most precious cargo. Rick DeMattos, GoKart’s Driver Engagement Manager, meets every driver first, inspects every driver vehicle and takes them on a sample drive. GoKart conducts a 7-year background check, DMV check and interviewed by senior GoKart staff.
What if my Child Needs a Booster Seat?
All GoKart drivers have a booster seat to use when needed.
What Are GoKart's Hours of Operation?
GoKart operates between the hours of 7:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday through Friday. We will drive before or after hours, including weekends. Please e-mail to inquire on pricing and driver availability.
